Seasonal water rise of the Nevėžys recorded in Panevėžys

The municipality of Panevėžys reports a seasonal rise in the Nevėžys River's water level, which peaked over the weekend, but no immediate threat to residents was noted.

The city of Panevėžys in Lithuania has reported a seasonal increase in the water levels of the Nevėžys River, with the highest recorded flow occurring overnight from Saturday to Sunday. During this period, the Ekrano Dam's sluices were raised by 63 cm, resulting in a measured water level of 4.03 meters at the city's monitoring station. Local authorities explained that fluctuations in river water levels during spring are a natural phenomenon driven by seasonal changes.

Despite the rising water levels, the municipality reassured residents that there were no immediate threats to their safety or infrastructure. Giedrius Šileika, the director of the Panevėžys city administration, mentioned that the situation was closely monitored throughout the weekend, and all hydrological data were evaluated. Although the most significant water fluctuations were observed in areas surrounding the Nevėžys basin outside the city, conditions within Panevėžys remained stable and manageable.

As the water level in the Nevėžys began to gradually decrease on Sunday, the municipality confirmed that it would continue to monitor the hydrological conditions. In case of any changes in the situation, the responsible services are ready to implement preventive measures to ensure public safety. This proactive stance highlights the city's preparedness in managing seasonal hydrological events while prioritizing the safety of its inhabitants.
