Residents of Kėdainiai have been warned about a potential flood threat due to rising water levels in the Nevėžis River.

Residents of Kėdainiai, particularly in Pelėdnagių seniūnija, Pašiliai village, and Justinava gardens, have received warnings from the State Fire and Rescue Service concerning the rising water levels of the Nevėžis River. The local government is urging residents to take precautions to secure their properties in anticipation of potential flooding. Early Sunday morning, an ice jam was observed near a pedestrian bridge in Kėdainiai, with water levels rising significantly over the previous day.

The report by Kėdainiai District Municipality highlights that the water level has reached 28.35 meters, an increase of 85 centimeters since the previous morning, and individual ice blocks have been floating down the river. Additionally, ice jams have been reported from Panevėžys to Kėdainiai, indicating a widespread issue affecting various areas along the river. The National Crisis Management Center has noted rising water levels across most of the country, with a critical high reached at the Šušvė River in Josvainiai.

In response to the situation, Kėdainiai District Municipality, in collaboration with relevant state institutions, is closely monitoring the conditions and has implemented necessary preventive measures. Assurance has been provided to the public that safety protocols are in place to manage any impact from the flooding, and they are advised to remain alert as the situation develops.
