The critical limit has not been reached: Nevėžis begins to withdraw
Water levels in the Nevėžis river are declining, signaling a positive change in the situation according to local authorities.
Authorities in Kėdainiai County have reported that the water level in the Nevėžis river has begun to decline, which indicates improvement after a period of concern regarding flooding. Civil safety specialist Jonas Švedas highlighted that, in comparison to the previous day, the water level dropped by 5 centimeters, contributing to a more stable situation in the area. The improvement is attributed to conditions upstream in the river, with positive trends being monitored at measurement stations in the Panevėžys and Anykščiai regions.
The situation in Kėdainiai is closely tied to the conditions higher up the river, as hydrographers observe stable patterns in Panevėžys, with no significant increases in water levels. This stabilization allows authorities to predict that no sudden adverse changes are expected soon. The good forecasts are bolstered by the gradual reduction of water levels in neighboring regions' reservoirs, suggesting minimal risk of sudden influxes of water.
Experiencing a drop in water levels also means the risk of ice jams has subsided, which was one of the major worries for local authorities. In sum, the combined efforts of civil safety teams and favorable weather conditions seem to have significantly mitigated the immediate threat posed by rising water levels in the Nevėžis river, leading to a hopeful outlook for the coming days.
