Eid-el-Fitr: NSCDC deploys 2,000 personnel to secure Edo
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has deployed more than 2,000 officers in Edo to ensure security during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
In an effort to maintain security during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed over 2,000 personnel across Edo State. The initiative, announced by the State Commandant, Mr. Saidi Akintayo, aims to proactively ensure a peaceful celebration free from disturbances. This deployment comes as a response to potential threats that could arise during the festivities, which typically draw large crowds to communal prayer grounds and public spaces.
The personnel have been mobilized from various specialized units within the NSCDC, including the Armed Squad, Female Special Squad, Counter Terrorism unit, and others, and are strategically placed in critical areas. Akintayo emphasized the importance of security in areas such as markets, recreational centres, prayer grounds, and highways where the public would gather. This comprehensive approach is designed to deter criminal activity and reassure the public of their safety as they engage in the celebrations.
Overall, the measures taken by the NSCDC reflect a broader commitment to ensuring safety during major religious events in Nigeria, particularly given the challenges posed by insecurity in some regions. With the heightened presence of security personnel, the state aims to foster a sense of security, allowing citizens to participate in Eid festivities with confidence and peace of mind.
