On Monday, Latvia's State Fire and Rescue Service reported the successful rescue of 13 individuals, a rabbit, and a dog from two fires that occurred in residential buildings. The first incident took place in a five-story apartment building on Sita Street in Riga, where a fire broke out on the fourth floor, affecting a 10-square-meter area filled with household goods and causing severe smoke in the stairwell. Firefighters quickly rescued five individuals, four of whom suffered injuries, while an additional ten people were evacuated from the building, and another five managed to escape on their own before help arrived.
The second fire occurred in a two-story apartment building on Dobele Street in Jelgava, where a 40-square-meter area was engulfed in flames within a first-floor apartment. Firefighters utilized rescue masks to save two individuals trapped in the smoke-filled rooms, while a third person was rescued from the second floor using an aerial ladder. Five other residents evacuated prior to the firefightersβ arrival. Remarkably, among those rescued were not only people but also a dog and a rabbit, highlighting the extensive efforts of the emergency services.
