On Tuesday, seven grass fires were extinguished in Latvia

Seven grass fires were extinguished in Latvia on Tuesday, with significant incidents noted in Limbažu and Valmieras districts, alongside two vehicle accidents requiring rescue operations.

On Tuesday, Latvia reported the extinguishing of seven grass fires, as per information provided by the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD). The most significant grass fires occurred in the Umurga parish of Limbažu municipality, covering an area of 5,000 square meters, and in the Burtnieku parish of Valmieras municipality, where the fire spread over an area of 3,000 square meters. These incidents are indicative of ongoing concerns regarding grass fires during the dry season in the region.

In addition to the fire incidents, the VUGD responded to emergency calls related to vehicular accidents. Around 10 AM, rescuers were alerted to an incident in Drabeši parish of Cēsis municipality where a car had collided with a tree. Firefighters had to extract a person trapped inside the vehicle, who was subsequently handed over to emergency medical service personnel. This highlights the dual pressures faced by emergency services, balancing fire response with road safety incidents.

Later in the day, at approximately 4 PM, another call was made regarding a collision between a light vehicle and a truck in Valgunde parish of Jelgava municipality. While two individuals managed to exit their vehicles before help arrived, one person remained trapped. Rescuers employed hydraulic tools to free the individual and safely transported them using a stabilization board to the medical responders. These incidents underline the importance of readiness and efficient response from emergency services in addressing both fire hazards and traffic accidents in Latvia during this season.
