On March 13, several grass fires were extinguished in Latvia, along with significant emergency responses to a person who fell through ice in Riga and a fire in Liepāja.

On March 13, multiple grass fires were reported and extinguished in Latvia, as confirmed by the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD). The most notable grass fire occurred in the Dobele municipality, covering an area of 0.5 hectares. Concurrently, VUGD highlighted the dangers of ice on water bodies due to rising temperatures, emphasizing that the ice is becoming increasingly unstable and dangerous for anyone attempting to walk on it.

In addition to the grass fires, VUGD received an emergency call regarding a person who fell through ice at Zigfrīda Annas Meierovica Boulevard in Riga. Emergency responders successfully retrieved the individual from the water and handed them over to paramedics. This incident underscores the growing risks associated with deteriorating ice conditions as spring approaches.

Furthermore, a fire alarm was triggered at a production facility on Kapsēdes Street in Liepāja. Prior to VUGD's arrival, 73 individuals were evacuated from the building. The fire covered an area of 10 square meters and was brought under control by the firefighters by 12:50 PM. The efficient response and evacuation highlight the importance of fire safety and emergency preparedness in urban settings.
