One person loses their life in a fire in Riga
A fire in Riga resulted in the death of one individual, while three others were rescued by firefighters.
On Wednesday, a fire broke out in a residential building in Riga, resulting in one casualty. According to the State Fire and Rescue Service, the incident occurred on the third floor of a five-story building, where an apartment and its balcony, as well as parts of the fourth-floor balcony, were engulfed in flames, covering an area of 80 square meters. Firefighters managed to rescue three individuals with the help of rescue masks before extinguishing the fire. In total, ten residents evacuated the building before the fire department arrived.
In addition to the tragic incident in Riga, the State Fire and Rescue Service received further calls regarding other fires in the region. At around 11:37, they responded to a call in Daukstu Parish, where wood dust was on fire at a woodworking facility outside of the building, covering a total of 50 square meters. Firefighting teams from Gulbene, LubΔna, and Cesvaine were deployed to handle the situation.
Another incident occurred at 12:20 on VΔjstΕ«ru street in Riga, where a large fire affected the first floor of a warehouse-type building and its roof, covering an area of 300 and 550 square meters, respectively. This high-risk fire took approximately ten hours to fully extinguish. The State Fire and Rescue Service reported receiving three calls for fire incidents in the past day, highlighting the ongoing challenges they face in ensuring public safety amid such emergencies.
