In 2025, a significant majority of Lithuanians, 79%, utilized the internet primarily to read news and obtain information, which is notably higher than the European Union average of 66%. This usage reflects a strong inclination towards digital engagement in a country that is rapidly adapting to internet use for various purposes. Moreover, the data suggests that Lithuanians are increasingly comfortable incorporating technology into their daily lives, as evidenced by 78% using video calls for communication and 77% using messaging applications like Messenger and WhatsApp.

Additionally, e-commerce has seen considerable growth in Lithuania, with 68% of the population shopping online, although this figure still trails the EU average of 74%. Nevertheless, Lithuania demonstrates higher e-commerce engagement levels than many South and East European countries, placing it within the mid-to-high echelon of EU nations regarding online shopping activity. This trend indicates a growing digital economy and consumer behavior that is increasingly leaning towards online transactions.

On the educational front, however, only 30% of Lithuanians reported using the internet for learning purposes, highlighting a potential area for growth in digital education. According to Artur Stefanovič, the head of the Lithuanian internet service provider 'Etanetas', the current data signifies that Lithuania has surpassed earlier stages of internet adoption, moving beyond initial hurdles. This could suggest a transformative shift in how Lithuanians view and utilize the internet, underscoring the importance of continued investment in digital literacy and accessibility for all citizens.
