The Internet is Mostly Used in Latvia for Social Communication, Research Shows
A study commissioned by the National Electronic Mass Media Council indicates that Latvians predominantly use the internet for social communication, with 66% engaging in social media daily or nearly every day.
A recent study commissioned by the National Electronic Mass Media Council in Latvia reveals that a significant portion of the Latvian population utilizes the internet primarily for social communication. According to the findings, 66% of respondents reported using social media every day or almost every day, highlighting the importance of digital platforms for personal interactions. This trend underscores the role of the internet as a vital tool in fostering social networks among Latvians.
Additionally, the research gathered insights into other prevalent internet usages. Approximately 57% of participants indicated they use the internet for entertainment daily or nearly every day, while 55% turn to the internet for news and updates. The results suggest a clear division in internet usage demographics, with younger individuals aged 25 and under more likely to utilize the internet for entertainment, while those aged 26 to 54, particularly those with higher income levels and education, are more inclined to seek news and information online.
Conducted between mid-October and mid-November of the previous year, the survey encompassed a wide range of respondents, portraying an informative picture of internet usage habits in Latvia. The outcomes of this study are significant as they provide critical insights into the digital behaviors of Latvians and may inform policy decisions regarding media and technology initiatives in the country.
