Free Classes for Making Terrariums and Habariums at Busan Democratic Park
Busan Democratic Park is offering free classes on making terrariums and habarimums as part of its cultural education program on November 4th.
On November 4, Busan Democratic Park will hold free classes for the community focused on creating terrariums and habarimums in the small theater at the Democratic Uprising Memorial Hall. This initiative is part of the '2026 Democratic Park Cultural Arts Education Project' known as 'A Day of Democracy.' Participants will engage in forest experiences, and the classes will allow individuals to create their own small green worlds inside glass containers. Each class aims to enhance participants' appreciation for nature through hands-on experience.
The terrarium involves transferring small plants into a sealed glass container, allowing for ongoing observation of plant growth in a controlled environment, marrying the concepts of 'terra' (earth) and 'arium' (small container). Meanwhile, the habarimum is designed for preserving plant specimens using a special liquid, combining the ideas of 'herb' and 'aquarium.' The free classes are available for individuals five years and older, with registration set to open on the park's website. As spots are limited and filled on a first-come, first-served basis, early registration is encouraged.
Busan Democratic Park was established in 1999 with significant funding to honor the citizens of Busan who played pivotal roles in historical democratic movements, including the April 19 Revolution of 1960 and the June Democratic Uprising of 1987. The park serves as an educational space operated by the Busan Democratic Uprising Memorial Association, with the goal of educating the public about the history and values of democracy.
