More than half a ton of irregularly transported cheese seized in stolen car in PI

A stolen car transporting over 600 kg of cheese was recovered in Picos, Piauí, along with an additional 150 kg of irregularly transported meat products.

On the morning of Monday, October 16, a stolen vehicle carrying more than 600 kg of cheese was recovered by the Federal Highway Police (PRF) in Picos, in the southern region of Piauí. The police also discovered an additional 150 kg of meat products that were being transported without proper certification. The recovery occurred during a routine inspection around 10 a.m., where two young men, aged 18 and 21, were found in the pickup truck claiming they had borrowed the vehicle to sell food products.

Upon inspecting the vehicle's identification elements, the police found signs of tampering. A more detailed investigation revealed that the vehicle was originally registered as stolen in December 2025 in Maracanaú, Ceará. This incident highlights the ongoing issues related to vehicle theft and the illegal transportation of goods in the region, raising concerns about the safety and hygiene standards of products being sold without proper oversight.

The seizure of over 600 kg of cheese and 150 kg of meat products underscores the significant challenges faced by authorities when it comes to regulating food safety. The inability to verify the provenance or safety of such large quantities of food can pose serious health risks to consumers. This case serves as a reminder of the need for continued vigilance and enforcement of laws surrounding food transportation and sales, particularly in areas that may experience higher levels of illicit activities.
