Load of more than 3 tons of unfit cheese coming from PE is seized in PI

A shipment of approximately 3.5 tons of unfit queijo coalho cheese was seized by Brazil's Federal Highway Police in Picos, Piauí, during a routine inspection.

A significant seizure of approximately 3.5 tons of queijo coalho cheese, along with butter and cream cheese, was conducted by the Federal Highway Police (PRF) in the city of Picos, Piauí. The shipment originated from the state of Pernambuco and was en route to Teresina when it was intercepted during a regular police inspection on the evening of October 3rd. Authorities flagged the load for serious health violations, including a lack of proper hygiene seals and inadequate thermal control, deeming it 'totally unfit for consumption.'

The driver, a 42-year-old man, was apprehended and charged with illegal acts affecting consumer relations. The PRF emphasized that the absence of valid sanitary documentation and proper refrigeration turned this dairy shipment into a dangerous risk for public health. This incident underscores ongoing concerns about food safety and regulatory compliance within Brazil’s dairy industry, particularly in transit situations.

The seizure not only highlights the importance of enforcing food safety standards but also raises awareness about the potential health hazards posed by improperly handled food products. As the country continues to grapple with various food safety issues, such enforcement actions by regulatory bodies like the PRF are crucial in maintaining public health and consumer confidence in the food supply chain.
