BR-251 is closed for more than six hours after accident between trucks and car

A serious accident on BR-251, involving two trucks and a car, caused a closure of the highway for over six hours without any injuries reported.

On Sunday, October 15, an accident on BR-251 in Francisco Sá resulted in a significant traffic interruption that lasted over six hours. The incident involved two trucks and a car, with the crash occurring during rainy weather conditions, which contributed to the loss of control by the driver of one truck who attempted to overtake the car. As a result, the truck ended up engaging in a maneuver that caused a serious collision with another truck approaching from the opposite direction, leading to debris blocking the entire roadway.

According to the Federal Highway Police (PRF), the accident took place around 15:20, with the highway remaining closed until approximately 21:40. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported among the occupants of any of the vehicles involved. The PRF also conducted breathalyzer tests on the drivers, which indicated that alcohol had not been a factor in the incident. Notably, one of the trucks involved was transporting polyethylene, which has raised concerns about the management of hazardous materials in such accidents.

This incident underscores the importance of safe driving practices, especially in adverse weather conditions. The lengthy closure of a major highway can also have significant repercussions for traffic movement and logistics in the region, highlighting how road safety measures and driver awareness are critical in preventing similar incidents in the future.
