A truck driver died and another person was injured in an accident involving a truck and a car on BR-251 in Brazil.
On the night of Wednesday, October 18, a tragic accident occurred on BR-251 near the Riacho dos Machados junction, resulting in the death of a truck driver and injuries to another motorist. According to the Federal Highway Police (PRF), the accident happened when the truck, traveling towards Salinas, lost control on a curve, veering off course and crashing into the rear of a car. The impact caused both vehicles to leave the road, with the truck overturning in the process.
The driver of the truck became trapped in the wreckage and succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Meanwhile, the car's driver suffered a cut on the ear and shoulder pain, requiring assistance from the emergency medical service (Samu), before being transported to a hospital in Francisco Sรก for further treatment. The recovery of the truck driver's body was undertaken by the Francisco Sรก firefighters after the police carried out their investigation, necessitating specialized equipment and techniques to safely remove the deceased from the damaged vehicle.
This fatal incident has raised concerns about traffic safety on BR-251, particularly given the dangerous nature of the curves on this highway. Authorities are expected to focus on improving road conditions and may implement measures aimed at preventing similar accidents in the future, as traffic accidents remain a significant issue in Brazil, contributing to ongoing discussions about road safety regulations and enforcement.
