The greatest threat in Panevėžys district is the Nevėžis: flooded lowlands, also under water - motocross track
The Nevėžis River has caused flooding in the Panevėžys area, affecting a motocross track and nearby bicycle paths, while ice flows in the Lėvens and Sanžilės rivers have remained stable for now.
In the Panevėžys district of Lithuania, seasonal flooding from the Nevėžis River has once again submerged parts of a motocross track located near J. Janonis Street, as well as sections of a nearby bicycle path leading to Berčiūnai. Every spring, this motocross track tends to fall within the flood zone, highlighting the recurring impact of rising water levels in the region. Despite the local threat from the Nevėžis, residents remain vigilant but calm about the flooding situation, as the ice conditions in other rivers are being monitored closely.
On a more positive note, while the Nevėžis is creating challenges, the Lėvens and Sanžilės rivers currently exhibit stable conditions, raising hopes for the surrounding communities. There was recent concern about potential flooding in the village of Daukniškiai, through which the Lėvuo River flows, as ice movements in the river could have caused complications. However, it appears that the ice has moved towards the Sanžilė river bank, thereby diverting the immediate flooding threat away from Daukniškių this year.
The community is actively observing the situation, with reports of moving ice being seen from local bridges. This careful monitoring helps alleviate fears, as residents now feel more reassured that significant flooding for Daukniškių may be avoided for the time being, although the watching of ice flows continues to be a critical aspect in the local flood management efforts.
