Regarding the condition of roads in Lithuania - poor forecasts: "The situation will not be better in the near future"
Experts predict that the condition of roads in Lithuania will deteriorate further by 2030 due to insufficient past decisions and funding efforts.
Recent assessments reveal that currently, 41% of Lithuania's roads are in poor condition, and experts are warning that this figure could rise to 45-50% by 2030. Š. Frolenko indicated that the benefits from recent initiatives, such as the Road Fund and e-tolling program, may take at least 4-5 years to show any results. In contrast, Poland, which has made significant improvements over the past decade, is only now starting to see positive outcomes from its long-term infrastructure decisions.
Martynas Gedaminskas, general director of the state road management company Via Lietuva, emphasized the urgent need to address critical conditions in the nation's bridges and viaducts this year. The focus on these structures suggests an acknowledgment of the broader issues affecting road safety and functionality across Lithuania. However, despite these efforts, the overall forecast remains bleak, indicating that without substantial investment and strategic planning, the deterioration of road conditions will continue.
The repeated emphasis on the physical and financial constraints hindering improvements suggests a challenging path ahead for Lithuania's infrastructure. The insights from these officials highlight the importance of thoughtful long-term planning and implementation of solutions that can yield results over time. As the country grapples with these significant infrastructure challenges, public and governmental pressures may mount to take immediate action to mitigate the problems faced by motorists and transport systems alike.
