Floods in Western Lithuania Already Pose Danger: Warning Due to Danger on the Road
Flooding in western Lithuania threatens roads and low-lying areas as ice conditions worsen.
The municipality of Šilutė has issued warnings regarding flood conditions in areas such as Atmata, Skirvytė, and Pakalnė, where rising waters have begun overflowing banks and inundating fields and forests. The ice cover in these regions is compromised with cracks, indicating a significant risk for local water bodies. In Klaipėda district, Priekulė municipality has reported that the road conditions have deteriorated, with dangerous washouts observed on Pleškučių Street (road KL1224). Officials have cautioned residents to drive with care in these affected areas, and appropriate markers have been placed to ensure safety. The Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service has warned that water is beginning to overflow in the lower areas near Panemunė, with single ice floes moving downstream toward Lazdėnai and the formation of ice jams occurring. Localities such as Plaškiai and Šilininkai are also experiencing similar flooding issues, as the ice cover continues to deteriorate, heightening the risk of further flooding.
