Four people were injured in traffic accidents on Sunday
Four individuals were injured in three out of the 87 traffic accidents reported in Latvia on Sunday.
On Sunday, Latvia recorded a total of 87 traffic accidents, resulting in injuries to four individuals in three separate incidents, as reported by the State Police through agency LETA. The majority of accidents occurred in the Riga region, where 48 incidents were reported, with two accidents leading to injuries; notably, one of these involved two individuals. In the Vidzeme region, seven accidents were recorded, resulting in one injury, while other regions saw varying numbers of accidents, including 17 in Zemgale, 10 in Kurzeme, and five in Latgale.
In addition to the accidents, authorities processed a total of 444 administrative violations related to traffic, with 176 of those concerning speeding offenses and one for aggressive driving. The police also initiated two administrative processes for driving under the influence of alcohol, along with five criminal cases associated with similar violations. Furthermore, one criminal process was initiated due to driving under the influence of suspected narcotics, highlighting ongoing concerns about road safety and compliance with traffic regulations in Latvia.
The high number of traffic accidents, paired with ongoing enforcement actions against violations, reflects the Latvian government's commitment to enhancing road safety. Despite the relatively low number of injuries reported this Sunday, the situation emphasizes the need for continued public awareness and strict adherence to traffic laws to prevent future incidents, particularly in more populated regions like Riga.
