The 'Boņuks 2025' ceremony celebrated ten outstanding events and personalities within Latgalian culture, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the region. A total of 155 candidates were nominated this year, with 30 events, personalities, and activities shortlisted for recognition by the jury. The event commenced with a moment of remembrance for the late Latvian director Jānis Streičs, reflecting the significance of cultural contributions by individuals in this close-knit community.

One of the key figures honored at the ceremony was Ruta Cibule, who received recognition for her lifetime contributions to the development of Latgalian culture. As a dedicated cultural worker and guardian of traditional culture in North Latgale, Cibule has played a pivotal role in the region’s cultural landscape for over forty years. Her extensive career encompasses leadership roles in the Balvi district culture department and the Balvi Central Library, where she has promoted and safeguarded Latgalian intangible cultural heritage and the local language.

The award ceremony not only highlights the achievements of individuals like Cibule but also underscores the importance of cultural heritage in Latgale.
