Environmental education project mobilizes students and distributes nearly 700 seedlings in Piauí

An environmental education project in Piauí engaged 608 students and 111 staff members to plant 695 fruit seedlings as part of a broader initiative to promote environmental awareness.

The Piauí State Secretariat for Environment and Water Resources (Semarh) recently launched a new phase of the Proverde Project in the northern region of the state. This initiative, led by the Directorate of Climate Change and Environmental Education (DMCEA), involved lectures, educational activities, and the distribution of fruit seedlings to various schools associated with the 3rd Regional Education Management (GRE). It was a concerted effort to foster environmental stewardship among students and teachers alike.

In total, 608 students and 111 educators participated in this crucial endeavor, resulting in the planting of 695 fruit seedlings. This hands-on approach not only provided practical experience in caring for plants but also aimed to forge a deeper connection between the community and the natural environment. Ruth Lima, the director of Environmental Education at Semarh, emphasized the project's goal of transforming schools into centers of environmental learning and awareness.

The Proverde Project highlights the importance of instilling environmental consciousness from a young age. By involving students in both the planting process and the subsequent growth of the plants, the initiative seeks to build a sense of responsibility toward nature and promote sustainable practices within the community. This approach reflects a broader movement to integrate environmental education into local curricula, fostering a generation that is more aware of ecological issues and committed to preservation efforts.
