A new initiative called "ProVerde nos Bairros" is set to begin this Saturday in Teresina, Brazil, aiming to distribute 15,000 native and fruit tree seedlings to local residents. The distribution will take place at Praça da Integração in the Parque Piauí neighborhood and is designed to promote active participation from citizens in planting and caring for trees in urban spaces, thereby increasing the city's green coverage.

According to the Piauí Secretary of State for the Environment and Water Resources (Semarh), the project will be ongoing every weekend in various parks across the neighborhoods of Teresina, although the complete schedule is yet to be released. This initiative is an extension of the broader "ProVerde" program, which seeks to combat urban heat, enhance air quality, and bolster the city's vegetation cover.

Local authorities emphasize the importance of community involvement in environmental projects, stating that by providing these seedlings, residents can play a vital role in making Teresina a greener place.
