One deceased in the fire in Jūrmala

A person has died in a fire in Jūrmala, Latvia, as reported by the State Fire and Rescue Service.

In the early hours of the night, a fire broke out in Jūrmala, leading to the tragic death of one individual. The State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) responded to the emergency call shortly after midnight, where they found a shed on fire spanning 40 square meters. The emergency services managed to contain the situation, but unfortunately, a person was confirmed dead at the scene.

Additionally, on the same day around noon, another fire incident occurred on Viļakas Street in Rēzekne, where a two-story production building was affected, particularly the sawdust collection bunker covering 80 square meters. Prior to the arrival of fire services, 15 people successfully evacuated the building; however, one individual suffered injuries related to the incident. These events highlight the concerning trend of fire outbreaks in the region and the response capabilities of local emergency teams.

Over the course of the last 24 hours, VUGD received a total of 49 emergency calls, which included 12 related to fire extinguishing efforts, 32 for rescue operations, and five that turned out to be false alarms. This influx of emergency calls underscores the ongoing challenges faced by the fire and rescue services in Latvia, as they remain vigilant in responding to various incidents and ensuring public safety.
