Person killed in apartment building fire in Jelgava region
A person died in a residential building fire in the Jelgava region of Latvia, as reported by the State Fire and Rescue Service.
On February 13, a tragic fire broke out in a residential building in the Jelgava region of Latvia, resulting in one fatality. The State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) received the emergency call at 3:24 PM and responded to the scene, where a 150 square meter residential building was engulfed in flames. Unfortunately, the incident claimed the life of one individual. In the course of firefighting efforts, one firefighter was injured but was able to continue working on-site after receiving medical attention from the Emergency Medical Service (NMPD). By midnight, the operations at the site were completed.
Additionally, in the 24 hours leading up to the fire incident, VUGD received a total of 57 emergency calls. These included 12 related to extinguishing fires and 35 for rescue operations, indicating a high demand for firefighting and rescue services during that timeframe. There were also ten false alarms within this period, highlighting the challenges emergency services face in responding to various emergency situations.
Furthermore, on the same day, VUGD reported a traffic accident in the Dzelzava parish of Madona, where a passenger bus veered off the road and overturned. Firefighters successfully rescued 19 people from the bus, underlining the risks associated with road safety in the region. These incidents reflect ongoing concerns about public safety and the vital role of emergency services in crisis situations.
