Heavy snowfall has impacted Gangwon province in South Korea, with reports of over 25 cm of snow in some areas on March 13.

On March 13, significant snowfall hit Gangwon province, reaching over 25 cm in certain areas, such as the Daecheong area. The weather report revealed that from 4 AM the previous day to 5 AM that morning, several regions experienced substantial snow accumulation, including notable measurements from Sapdangryeong (24.7 cm) and Jeongseon Baekbokryeong (21.8 cm). The Gangwon Regional Meteorological Administration has also predicted substantial temperature fluctuations over the weekend, advising the public to prepare for lows dipping between -1 and 4 degrees Celsius, and highs rising to between 9 and 15 degrees Celsius.

In addition to the heavy snow, local flora have started to bloom despite the wintry conditions, as observed in the Gujeong-myeon valley of Gangneung city, where yellow flowers of the early spring species, '복수초' (Dogtooth Violet), emerged adorned with snow. This unusual intersection of blooming spring flowers amidst heavy snowfall raises questions about the shifting patterns in seasonal weather, which may have implications for both natural environments and agriculture as they adapt to changing climatic conditions.

The heavy snow has not only transformed the landscape into a winter wonderland but has also created visibility issues on routes like the old Yeongdong Expressway section at Daegwallyeong, shrouded in dense fog. The conditions serve as reminders of the unpredictable nature of weather patterns, further emphasizing the necessity for locals and travelers to remain vigilant and informed during such weather events.
