Rain and Snow Nationwide From Afternoon...Diurnal Temperature Range Over '15 Degrees'
Rain and snow are forecasted to hit most of South Korea starting in the afternoon, with significant snowfall expected in the Gangwon mountainous regions.
On Thursday, nationwide precipitation in the form of rain and snow is expected to begin in the afternoon, with the Korea Meteorological Administration forecasting considerable snowfall especially in the mountainous regions of Gangwon. With heavy snowfall already reported in parts of Gangwon, caution is advised due to the potential for various accidents. The report highlights that rain and snow will primarily affect the capital region, northern inland Gangwon, Chungcheong, and Jeonbuk by 3 PM, with the majority of the country experiencing precipitation from the evening until early morning the next day.
The expected snowfall varies across regions, with the Gangwon mountain area anticipating 5-15 cm, northern inland Gangwon expecting 3-8 cm, and other regions projected to see about 1-5 cm. Rainfall amounts are predicted at 5-20 mm for most parts of the country, while specific coastal regions and cities in the southeast, including Busan and Ulsan, are expected to see between 5-10 mm of rain.
In terms of temperatures, daytime highs will range from 9 to 16 degrees Celsius, which is in line with or slightly above average levels. However, there will be a significant diurnal temperature variation exceeding 15 degrees in inland areas. Major cities such as Seoul, Daejeon, and Gwangju are expected to reach highs of 13, 16, and 16 degrees Celsius respectively, while cloud cover will dominate the skies in the central and Jeju regions, with southern areas starting clear but gradually becoming overcast later in the day.
