30 minutes less to the center of Manabí: how the Colón-Quimís road will shorten distances from Guayas
The reconstruction of the Colón-Quimís road will reduce travel time from Guayas to Manabí by up to 30 minutes, enhancing connectivity to several cantons.
The ongoing reconstruction of the Colón-Quimís road is set to significantly improve travel time from Guayas to the interior of Manabí, cutting it by up to 30 minutes. This project will directly benefit travelers heading towards cantons such as Portoviejo, Santa Ana, 24 de Mayo, Olmedo, and Junín, facilitating a more efficient route that reduces detours and streamlines access through one of the province's busiest agricultural corridors.
Initiated on March 10, the Colón-Quimís project involves rehabilitating 22.2 kilometers of roadway as part of the 'Vías del Bicentenario' program, which is a significant infrastructural initiative led by the Manabí Prefecture. The total investment for this infrastructure enhancement amounts to approximately $9.59 million, with funding provided by the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF). It is expected to be completed within a timeframe of 540 days, or 18 months.
Once completed, the road is anticipated to provide a more direct route to regions within Manabí, bypassing the current necessity to enter Portoviejo before continuing on alternate roads. This will not only save time for travelers but also bolster regional trade and agricultural transport by improving logistical efficiency, ultimately enhancing the overall economic dynamics of the area.
