Estonia has fallen behind the Nordics in data center construction
Estonia and the Baltic states lag behind the Nordics in data center development, with only one modern facility completed near Tallinn.
Estonia and the other Baltic states are noticeably behind the Nordic countries in the development of data centers, highlighted by the fact that only one modern facility has been established close to Tallinn. The expansion of data centers worldwide indicates a growing market, however, the establishment of these centers relies heavily on securing specific client bases. In response to this gap, renewable energy company Sunly plans to construct the largest data center in the Baltics in Läänemere, which could have an energy consumption capacity of up to 180 megawatts, with an estimated total investment of €1.7 billion. While the Nordic countries boast around a hundred data centers, the Baltics only have one modern facility operational in Hüüru near Tallinn.
