Technical report will show what happened with newly inaugurated footbridge at Avenida Júlio César, in Belém
A technical report is set to investigate the risks of collapse of a newly opened footbridge in Belém, Brazil, which led to its removal and traffic disruptions.
Following the identification of risks associated with a newly inaugurated footbridge on Avenida Júlio César in Belém, a technical report will assess the structural issues that arose, prompting the removal of the footbridge since Tuesday night. The traffic disruptions caused by the removal have led to significant inconvenience for drivers, who have breached the barriers due to resulting congestion. The Municipality's Secretariat of Works and Infrastructure, alongside the Igarapé São Joaquim consortium, which includes Construbase, has decided to undertake this action to ensure public safety.
Vinicius Carandina, a civil engineer from Construbase, stated that a thorough retroanalysis of the footbridge's structure will be conducted to determine the cause of any deformation. He expressed confidence in the forthcoming assessment, which aims to clarify the circumstances around the structural failures. Carandina assured that a team comprising structural engineers and external inspectors is diligently working on this analysis and plans to share findings with the community as soon as possible.
The costs incurred from the disassembly and subsequent safety measures will be borne by the responsible parties, indicating the commitment of the involved organizations to address the issues proactively. This situation highlights critical concerns regarding infrastructure safety in urban areas and may prompt further investigations into construction practices and preventive measures in the future.
