Katowice Airport: More Passengers in February, but March is Uncertain

Katowice Airport saw an 8.3% increase in passenger numbers in February, but future predictions for March are uncertain due to geopolitical instability.

In February, Katowice Airport reported a successful month with a total of 232,170 passengers utilizing regular flight connections, marking an increase of 8.3% compared to the same month last year. Additionally, the chartered passenger numbers reached 149,352, up by 8.1%, contributing to a total of 2,967 aircraft movements during the month. Artur Tomasik, the airport's president, highlighted this as the best February in the airport's history, signaling strong performance in both regular and chartered flight segments.

Despite these positive results, Tomasik expressed caution about the upcoming months. The airport's management is aware of the potential impact of geopolitical issues, particularly in the Middle East, which could affect flight schedules and passenger traffic. This situation has prompted the airport to adjust its forecasts, anticipating that March may not meet earlier expectations due to the ongoing uncertainty in the global context.

As Polish airports prepare for further growth, it's important to note that 2025 is projected to be a significant year, with nearly 66.3 million passengers expected to be served across the country's airports. This would represent a 14.4% increase from the previous year, indicating a robust recovery and growth trajectory for the aviation industry in Poland, although external challenges remain a key consideration for management.
