Paulig concentrates its spice production in Estonia – nearly one hundred jobs disappear
The food company Paulig is relocating its spice production from Sweden to Estonia, resulting in the loss of nearly 100 jobs in Mölndal, with the transition expected to be completed by summer 2027.
Paulig, a Finnish food corporation, has announced plans to concentrate its spice production in Saue, Estonia, leading to the closure of its factory in Mölndal, Sweden. This transition is set to occur gradually, with the goal of ensuring delivery reliability throughout the process, according to Lenita Ingelin, the director of Paulig's brands business area. The decision comes after the company shared its restructuring plans earlier in January and successfully completed consultation negotiations in Sweden.
The closure of the spice production facility in Mölndal will impact a total of 95 employees, of whom 86 are involved in production and nine in administrative roles. Paulig has stated that this change will not result in job cuts at its other locations, demonstrating a commitment to their workforce despite the shifts in production focus. The company is taking careful steps as it moves production to Estonia, where the new operational setup will be gradually increased to maintain supply chain reliability.
This strategic move raises questions about the broader implications of industrial relocations within Europe, especially regarding job security in countries like Sweden facing production cuts in favor of more cost-effective solutions in Estonia. As companies like Paulig look to optimize operations, stakeholders will be closely watching the impact on local economies and employment rates.
