The Seimas will discuss the proposal to change the procedure and pricing for ship technical inspections
The Lithuanian Seimas is considering changes to the technical inspection procedures and pricing for inland water transport, aiming to ensure transparency and cost-effectiveness.
On Tuesday, the Lithuanian Seimas approved by consensus a proposal to amend the Internal Water Transport Code regarding technical inspections. The project will now be discussed further by the Seimas Economic Committee and the Marine Affairs Committee, with a plenary session scheduled for April 7. If passed, the amendments will establish maximum prices for technical inspections and clear calculation rules based on actual costs, promoting safety and service reliability in inland water transport.
The Vice-Minister of Transport, Dovilė Sujetaitė, highlighted that the legislative initiative intends to ensure clearer and more transparent regulation of technical inspections for inland water transport vehicles. It is expected to mitigate potential corruption risks and provide a legal framework for pricing these services based on the actual delivery costs. By aligning the fees with genuine costs, the government aims to enhance accountability and service quality in the transport sector.
This legislative move reflects Lithuania's commitment to improving regulatory frameworks in transportation. The adjustments in technical inspection processes not only aim to enhance vehicle safety but also to foster an economic environment that supports fair pricing mechanisms. As the Seimas prepares for further discussions, the outcome could set a precedent for other transportation sectors in terms of regulatory clarity and cost management.
