Two service inspections will start in connection with the 'Rail Baltica' railway project

Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa has initiated two service inspections regarding the Rail Baltica railway project, supported by the Minister of Transport.

On March 9, Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa, representing the New Unity party, announced the initiation of two service inspections related to the Rail Baltica railway project. This decision came after discussions with the project's joint venture 'RB Rail' and officials from the Ministry of Transport as well as the European Railway Lines. Prime Minister Siliņa indicated that questions had been raised to both the 'RB Rail' board and the relevant officials in the Ministry of Transport and the European Railway Lines, leading to the conclusion that service inspections were necessary.

Transport Minister Atis Švinka of the Progressive party supported the initiative, assuring that during the inspection period, Latvia would not place any orders for track switches nor spend any Euro on this contract. He emphasized that multiple investigations pertaining to the project are currently underway. This underscores the importance of addressing potential issues and ensuring transparency and accountability in such large-scale infrastructure projects, especially when involving substantial public funds.

The Rail Baltica project is critical for improving rail connectivity across the Baltic states and integrating them more closely with the European transport network. However, the initiation of service inspections may indicate underlying concerns regarding project management and financial oversight that authorities are keen to address to maintain public trust and project integrity.
