The Lithuanian President is set to meet with the Seimas leadership to discuss legislative initiatives ahead of the spring parliamentary session, including procurement transparency in defense.
In Lithuania, President Gitanas Nausėda is scheduled to meet twice yearly with the Seimas leadership to discuss proposed legislative acts ahead of the parliamentary sessions. These meetings are traditional and provide a platform for the President to present his legislative initiatives to ensure alignment with governmental objectives and the parliamentary agenda.
The upcoming meeting will also feature a separate discussion with the Minister of National Defense, Robertas Kaunas, focusing on enhancing transparency and optimization of public procurements within the defense sector. This emphasizes the government's commitment to improve procurement processes in light of existing challenges and to foster accountability in public spending. Such conversations are crucial for ensuring that the defense capabilities are effectively supported through trustworthy procurement practices.
Furthermore, the Government plans to submit a total of 117 legislative act packages for consideration in the Seimas's spring session, with 45 of these projects to be discussed as early as March. The agenda includes critical national security measures, such as the establishment of the Kapčiamiesčio training ground and amendments related to the Tauragė training ground's expansion. Additionally, an updated National Security Strategy will be proposed to address current geopolitical threats, reflecting Lithuania’s proactive stance on national security amidst evolving global dynamics.
