Free public transport in Vilnius starting tomorrow

To accommodate events for the March 11 celebrations, public transport in Vilnius will be free for all passengers.

As Vilnius prepares for the March 11 celebrations, significant traffic restrictions will be implemented in the city center. From March 10 at 9 PM until March 11 at 3 PM, parking will be prohibited on Gynėjų Street from A. Tumėno Street to Gedimino Avenue. Additionally, vehicular traffic will be restricted on parts of Gedimino Avenue and Gynėjų Street during the day of the events, specifically from 9 AM to 2 PM.

The celebrations will include a parade on Gedimino Avenue from Cathedral Square to Lukiškių Square, scheduled between 4 PM and 6 PM, with subsequent rallies affecting access to various streets. To ease transportation for attendees, public transport services, including trolleys and buses, will be free on March 11. Services will operate according to weekend schedules, but with increased frequency on certain routes to accommodate higher passenger volumes throughout the day.

This initiative not only promotes access to the festivities but also aims to alleviate traffic congestion anticipated during the celebrations. By providing free public transport, the city encourages residents and visitors to utilize buses and trolleys rather than private vehicles, ultimately enhancing the overall experience of the celebrations and helping facilitate the smooth conduct of the events.
