Prepare for traffic restrictions: Vilnius municipality announces where you won't be able to drive on February 16
Traffic restrictions will be in place in Vilnius from February 13 to 17 due to events commemorating the independence of Lithuania on February 16.
The Vilnius municipality is informing residents and visitors about significant traffic restrictions that will be enforced in the city for the annual events commemorating Lithuania's independence day on February 16. The festivities will include a youth march titled 'By the Lithuanian State Road' starting at 10 am from Cathedral Square near the Gediminas Monument, followed by the lighting of 16 freedom bonfires along Gediminas Avenue from 6 pm to 11 pm.
These restrictions will begin on February 13 at 7 pm and continue until February 17 at 4 am, with a complete ban on vehicle traffic on Gediminas Avenue between Å ventaragio and Vilnius streets. Additional limitations will be imposed on February 15 and 16 in various parts of the Old Town, including St. John's Street and part of Pilies Street, allowing only resident vehicles during specific hours, thus significantly impacting local traffic.
The traffic measures aim to facilitate safe celebrations and ensure public safety during the crowded events. Officials urge the public to plan their travels accordingly to avoid inconveniences and contribute to a smooth flow of pedestrian traffic around the festive areas as the city marks this national day.
