On Monday, Latvia's State Police reported that there were 134 traffic accidents across the country, resulting in two individuals suffering injuries. The accidents included one pedestrian being injured and occurred in the Kurzemes and Rīgas regions. Alongside these incidents, police took action against drunk driving, apprehending four drivers for operating their vehicles under the influence of alcohol, which also included a driver found using narcotics.

The legal repercussions for these offenses have been severe, with two of the apprehended drivers facing criminal charges due to their intoxication levels, resulting in vehicle confiscation or financial restitution equivalent to the vehicle's value. In addition to these serious violations, an alarming number of traffic infractions were reported overall, as police issued a total of 530 citations for various traffic law violations, indicative of ongoing road safety challenges in the region.

Moreover, the police reported specific data on speeding violations, with 216 tickets issued across different regions: 22 in Rīga, 63 in Latgale, 47 in Vidzeme, 45 in Kurzem, and 39 in Zemgale. This coordinated enforcement highlights the urgency to address reckless driving behaviors, including aggressive driving as noted by penalties imposed on two drivers, underlining the need for improved road safety measures in Latvia.
