The number of vacant jobs in Latvia decreased by 13% last year

In Latvia, the total number of vacant job positions fell by 13% over the past year, with notable declines in both the public and private sectors.

The report highlights a significant decrease in vacant job positions in Latvia, with a total reduction of 13% over the past year. The public sector experienced a more pronounced decline, losing 1,800 positions or 16.7%, while the private sector reported a loss of 1,200 positions, translating to a decrease of 10.2%. By the end of the year, there were approximately 11,000 vacant positions in the private sector compared to 9,000 in the public sector, revealing a trend of diminished opportunities across both sectors.

Analysis indicates that vacancy rates varied by profession, with qualified workers and craftsmen experiencing the largest drop at 20.1%. Bureaucratic roles and machinery operators also saw significant decreases, falling by 13.8% and 13.2% respectively. Despite an overall increase in occupied positions nationwide by 0.3% from the previous year, it is concerning that vacancies continue to decline across all occupational categories.

Looking ahead to 2025, the report projects that the highest proportion of vacant positions will be found among specialists at 3.8%, and among qualified workers at 2.7%. This evolving labor market scenario underscores the challenges that both the public and private sectors face in filling essential roles, which could have broad implications for economic growth and workforce development in Latvia.
