In Latvia, the employment figures for the previous year reported that 883,100 residents were engaged in various forms of work, marking an increase of 0.6 percentage points compared to the previous year. Significant job growth was observed particularly in wholesale and retail trade, as well as in the automotive and motorcycle repair industries, and in professional, scientific, and technical services. These trends indicate a recovery and progressive growth in these sectors, reflecting broader economic improvements.
Moreover, the employment rate among youth aged 15-24 amounted to 30.8% in 2025, which is a 0.9 percentage point increase from 2024, translating to 57,600 employed youth compared to 56,200 the previous year. This increase is encouraging for the youth labor market in Latvia and suggests that more young individuals are finding employment opportunities. With a focus on enhancing skills and job readiness, these numbers could further improve, supporting overall economic vitality.
Additionally, the report highlighted the trend of secondary employment, where 45,500 people were engaged in additional jobs alongside their primary employment, representing a 4.8% increase from the previous year. Of those involved in secondary employment, women were more active, with 26,300 women compared to 19,200 men taking on these extra roles. This indicates a shift in work dynamics, allowing individuals to supplement their income in various ways, which may also reflect changes in social roles and economic needs in the Latvian population.
