Heroin worth millions hidden in car's steering box, smuggling bust in Arunachal
Police in Changlang, Arunachal Pradesh have arrested two individuals for smuggling heroin valued at approximately 2.74 lakh rupees, hidden in the steering box of a vehicle.
In a significant move against drug trafficking, the police in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh apprehended two suspects and seized a cache of heroin with an estimated value of 2.74 lakh rupees. The operation, which took place on National Highway 215, followed credible intelligence about drug smuggling activities in the region, particularly through routes originating from Assam.
The police initiated an anti-drug operation led by the local Superintendent of Police, Kirli Padu, who confirmed that a reliable tip-off prompted the activation of the anti-drug squad. This team intensified surveillance in the area and conducted checks on suspicious vehicles on the highway, focusing on identifying potential drug shipments entering the district.
The interdiction occurred on a Sunday when the police successfully stopped a vehicle that was suspected to be involved in the smuggling attempt. The investigation has now shifted to uncovering the broader smuggling network, as authorities have registered a case and are actively probing the origins and distribution of the seized heroin, which is seen as part of a larger issue of narcotics trafficking in the region.
