Sweden repatriated Finns from the Middle East - here is the price
Sweden conducted a repatriation flight for Finnish citizens from the Middle East, highlighting the cost and significant demand for spots on the flight.
A repatriation flight organized by the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs returned nearly 180 passengers from Dubai to Stockholm, with a significant number being Swedish citizens, while a few Finnish citizens were also on board. The flight, which landed on Sunday morning at Stockholm's Arlanda Airport, was not fully booked, illustrating the complexities of arranging such operations amidst high demand. The cost for the adults was reported at 12,000 Swedish krona (approximately €1,120), with children's tickets priced at 9,000 krona (about €840). The availability of this flight underscores the efforts made to assist citizens amidst the ongoing situation in the Middle East, where about 3,000 Finns are currently residing.
The Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs confirmed that it would also organize a repatriation flight from Muscat, Oman to assist those in the Middle East, prioritizing families with children and those in vulnerable positions. With a capacity of 160, and approximately 350 people expressing interest, it highlights the challenges of international repatriation efforts, as not every interested party will be able to secure a seat on the flight. The flight is priced at 1,230 euros per passenger, showcasing the financial implications for families and individuals impacted by the crisis in the region.
Despite the high interest in repatriation, the Finnish government has only authorized one such flight so far, leading to concerns about how they will manage the remaining citizens looking to return home. This decision reflects the broader context of governmental responsibilities towards their citizens abroad, especially during times of crisis, and raises questions about the adequacy of support available to Finns in precarious situations in foreign countries.
