Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Finns are offered repatriation flights from the Middle East by other countries
The Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces repatriation flights provided by other countries for Finns currently in the Middle East who have registered their travel plans.
The Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has communicated the availability of repatriation flights for Finnish nationals in the Middle East who have made travel announcements. A repatriation flight organized by the Finnish Ministry from Oman to Finland is scheduled to depart soon, with about 350 Finns having registered for the flight. However, only 160 passengers were able to secure a place, while 190 were left without. The selection process prioritized families with children and individuals in particularly vulnerable situations, illustrating the Ministry's commitment to assisting those most in need.
The Ministry has also informed that information regarding flights organized by other countries may be provided at very short notice and these flights are headed to various locations across Europe. As such, it will be the passengers' responsibility to arrange continued travel connections to their final destinations. This underscores the logistical challenges Finnish nationals may face as they seek to return home, especially given the evolving situation in the region.
Additionally, the Ministry has noted that the arrangements, costs, and conditions for these flights can vary by country, with registration often being binding. They clarify that they do not organize these flights and thus cannot answer specific questions regarding them. As the situation in the Middle East develops, Yle continues to monitor and update news relating to it, ensuring that Finns abroad are kept informed of their options.
