Those affected by the floods of the Acre River can receive Calamity Withdrawal in Rio Branco; see how to apply

Residents of Rio Branco affected by the floods of the Acre River can apply for the Calamity Withdrawal from the FGTS starting April 6, 2023.

Residents of Rio Branco impacted by the flooding of the Acre River are eligible to apply for the Calamity Withdrawal from the Worker’s Time Guarantee Fund (FGTS) beginning Friday, April 6. This initiative is facilitated by Caixa Econômica Federal to assist in rebuilding homes damaged by the floods. Previous floods have shown significant impact, affecting over 12,000 people according to the Municipal Civil Defense.

Applications for the Calamity Withdrawal can be submitted directly through the Caixa FGTS app. However, for those unable to verify their residence via the app, the Municipal Civil Defense will provide assistance at the Parque de Exposições starting Monday, April 9. Eligible individuals must have a balance in their FGTS account and must not have made a withdrawal for the same reason in the past 12 months; the maximum amount that can be withdrawn is R$ 6,220.00 per account linked to the FGTS, depending on the account balance.

This support is essential for residents to rebuild their lives and homes after devastating natural events and showcases the government's commitment to providing financial assistance post-disasters. The move follows a pattern where authorities step in to help communities affected by environmental catastrophes, highlighting the ongoing struggles that these communities face amidst climate challenges.
