Lithuania will organize citizen repatriation from Dubai; contract signed with 'flydubai'

The Lithuanian government has arranged for the repatriation of its citizens from Dubai, prioritizing vulnerable groups and utilizing the airline flydubai for the operation.

In response to a decision by the National Security Commission, Lithuania is facilitating the rapid repatriation of its most vulnerable citizens from Dubai. Transport Minister Jurs Taminsks has assured that arrangements have been made with the airline flydubai, enabling the first group of citizens to return home in the coming days. The government's swift action reflects a commitment to the safety and well-being of its citizens abroad amidst ongoing regional challenges.

The planned operation will prioritize those in the most precarious situations, including individuals with disabilities, pregnant women, and socially vulnerable persons, who currently face significant challenges in safely traveling back to their home country. The Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already identified individuals requesting assistance, with approximately 2,000 Lithuanian citizens reported to be in the region, over half of whom are in the United Arab Emirates.

With a capacity for 170 passengers, the first flight from Dubai is expected to help alleviate the concerns of families waiting to reunite with their loved ones. The National Crisis Management Center's head, Vilmants Vitkausks, has indicated the urgency of the situation, emphasizing that the government’s proactive measures aim to ensure that citizens can return safely as soon as possible, highlighting the challenges faced by Lithuanians abroad during uncertain times.
