Some Lithuanians stuck in Dubai have returned to Lithuania, criticizing the government and travel agencies.
Lithuanian citizens stranded in Dubai have returned home, expressing frustration towards the government and travel agencies for their handling of the situation.
On Wednesday, the Lithuanian embassy in the UAE announced the imminent charter flights to Vilnius for citizens stranded in Dubai due to recent travel disruptions. The airline FlyDubai will operate these flights specifically for those who had previously booked tickets to return to Lithuania. The embassy clarified that the airline will contact and register passengers, alleviating the need for them to travel to the airport ahead of time while advising them to await messages from the airline.
The first FlyDubai flight landed in Vilnius early Thursday morning, a journey that originated on Wednesday evening from Dubai. The flight had a scheduled stop in Istanbul for refueling, as noted by Simonas Bartkus, the head of Lithuanian airports, on social media. This situation highlights the complexities and logistical challenges faced by travelers amid international travel restrictions and unexpected delays.
One returning passenger named Aurelijus shared his relief at finally being back in Lithuania, recounting his experience of being stranded in Dubai while waiting for a connecting flight from another vacation destination. His comments reflect the broader sentiments of frustration among those affected, pointing to gaps in communication and support from both government officials and travel agencies. This incident raises questions about the effectiveness of crisis management for travelers during global disruptions.
