Using Cainz Parking Lots as Activity Bases for Shizuoka Prefecture Police During Disasters
Shizuoka Prefecture Police and Cainz have signed an agreement allowing the use of the home improvement store's parking lots as operational bases during large-scale disasters.
On April 4th, Shizuoka Prefecture Police and Cainz, a major home improvement store chain headquartered in Honjo, Saitama, established an agreement to secure police operational bases during large-scale disasters. This agreement allows police to use the parking lots of all 25 Cainz stores across the prefecture free of charge in case of an emergency. According to the police, this is the first agreement of its kind in Japan between a private business and law enforcement.
The public demonstration in the parking lot of the Cainz Shimizu store showcased rescue vehicles and command cars equipped with disaster response materials, indicating the preparedness and response capabilities being enhanced by this collaboration. The initiative was prompted by Cainz's offer to support police operations during disasters, ensuring that police can efficiently deploy resources to respond to earthquakes, floods, and other natural calamities.
The agreement stipulates that during emergencies, designated areas in these parking lots will be made available upon the request of the prefectural police. These locations are expected to serve not only local police but also assisting units from other prefectures, reinforcing their capacity to conduct rescue operations and patrol the affected areas, ultimately improving the community's safety during disasters.
