Falsely claiming family death to take paid leave; multiple cars parked at a single contract site results in penalties for prefectural employees
Two employees of Yamagata Prefecture have been disciplined for misconduct involving the falsification of family deaths to take paid leave and improperly parking multiple vehicles at a single contracted parking space.
On October 10, Yamagata Prefecture announced disciplinary action against two of its employees for serious misconduct. A male employee in his 20s from the Shonai General Bureau falsely claimed the deaths of his grandfather and mother to unjustly obtain a total of 18 days of leave, consisting of bereavement, sick leave, and family care leave. He had even forged medical documents to support his leave applications, but discrepancies in the documentation led to an investigation and subsequent admission of wrongdoing. As a result, the prefectural human resources department found substantial grounds for taking disciplinary action against him.
Additionally, a male employee in his 50s from the Department of Civil Engineering was also penalized for repeatedly parking multiple vehicles under one contract at a parking facility. This misconduct raised significant red flags regarding the integrity of parking facility usage, as it was intended for a single vehicle only. Such actions highlight ongoing issues within the prefectural workforce regarding accountability and ethical behavior among public servants, prompting the need for stricter oversight and enforcement of administrative policies.
These incidents not only reflect individual lapses in moral judgment but point to potential systemic problems in the monitoring of employee conduct and adherence to proper regulations. The actions taken by Yamagata Prefecture could serve as a warning to other public institutions to review their policies on leave and parking management to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
