The wage gap between regions increased by another 29 euros

The average monthly gross wage in Lithuania's capital region experienced a 4.3% increase in the last quarter, contributing to a widening wage gap between various regions.

In Lithuania, the average monthly gross wage in the capital region (Vilnius) reached €2,772.2 in the fourth quarter of the last year, marking a 4.3% increase from the previous quarter. In contrast, the central and western regions of Lithuania reported a lower average gross wage of €2,329, which grew by 3.8%. This discrepancy highlights the growing regional wage gap within the country, as employees in Vilnius saw the highest monthly net wage of €1,680.5, compared to €1,432 in the central and western areas, presenting a concern for regional economic equality.

The data also indicates that there was a notable increase in wages across all municipalities, with Kaunas County experiencing the most significant boost of 4.9% in gross wages. However, Marijampole County saw the least increase at only 1.8%. This variance reflects the broader economic disparities that exist within Lithuania, further stratifying wage structures and impacting local economies disproportionately.

Considering the trend of wage growth and the resultant regional disparities, there is a growing call for policy measures to address the economic imbalances. The increase in wages in the capital region versus other regions poses challenges that could exacerbate social and economic inequalities, necessitating focused efforts to balance economic development across all areas of Lithuania.
