Repatriation from the UAE prioritizes vulnerable persons and families with children

Latvia's Foreign Ministry is arranging a repatriation flight from the UAE, prioritizing vulnerable individuals and families with children amid ongoing concerns about safety in the region.

Latvia's Foreign Ministry, in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport, is preparing to issue a directive allowing the national airline 'airBaltic' to facilitate the repatriation of Latvian citizens from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). According to a post from the Foreign Ministry on social media, the focus of this repatriation will be on vulnerable individuals and families with children, highlighting the government's commitment to ensuring the safe return of those who may be at greater risk.

The situation in Egypt remains unchanged, with travel warnings from the US Embassy and other EU member states staying in effect, which reflects ongoing safety concerns in the region. The Foreign Ministry emphasized the unpredictability of the situation in the Middle East, advising travelers to carefully consider the necessity of their trips. Although airspace in Egypt is currently open, potential restrictions on the airspace of other countries might lead to unexpected changes in flight schedules for journeys to and from Egypt.

According to Tuesday's information from the Foreign Ministry, there are currently 676 Latvian citizens registered in the consular database as planning short-term travel to the region, with the vast majority, 576 individuals, located in the UAE. This situation underscores the need for a coordinated effort to ensure not only the safe return of those individuals but also the need for vigilance regarding travel in the Middle East during this uncertain period.
