Currently, no special flights are planned for the repatriation of Latvian citizens from Middle Eastern countries

The Latvian Foreign Ministry has announced that they do not currently have plans for special repatriation flights for Latvian citizens in the Middle East, but are providing support through consultations.

The Latvian Foreign Ministry (ĀM) has confirmed that there are no current plans for special flights to repatriate Latvian citizens from Middle Eastern countries amid ongoing regional tensions. Instead, the Ministry is focusing its efforts on providing assistance to those citizens through telefax and written consultations. This decision comes at a time when various international responses to the situation in the region are closely monitored, reflecting the challenges faced by European nations in managing the safety of their citizens abroad.

The Ministry’s report highlights the distribution of Latvian citizens across several Middle Eastern countries, including the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where 799 citizens are residing, and Israel, which hosts the largest Latvian community in the region with 6,383 residents, most of whom hold dual citizenship. The data underscores the importance of maintaining consular services and readiness to support citizens who might find themselves in precarious situations, especially given the dynamic political landscape of the Middle East.

While no immediate evacuation flights have been organized, the Ministry emphasizes its commitment to ensuring that those in the region receive necessary guidance and support. This development raises concerns about the potential need for future evacuations as tensions could escalate, and highlights the ongoing necessity for effective communication between the government and its citizens during crises.
